In the beginning the heav’ns and Earth

In the beginning the heav'ns and Earth

Were formed by the sovereign's voice.

Out of darkness the Lord God called light to birth,

From silence, a world of noise.

Then as Adam is lured by the father of lies,

And his actions condemn the human race,

Darkness falls once again, as perfection dies.

Yet God leaves a promise of grace.

People in darkness have seen a light.

The start of a glorious dawn.

For a child who will pierce through eternal night

In Bethlehem's town is born.

As the Lord of eternity steps into time,

From the silence there comes a tiny cry.

But this baby will one day up Calv'ry climb

And there for our sins He will die.

People today in the darkness grope,

Still in confusion and fear.

But the message of Christmas is one of hope,

As God to our world draws near.

While you eat, drink and shop as you try hard to fill

Up that feeling of emptiness inside,

Turn back now to the Saviour and feel the thrill

Of love and forgiveness applied.
