O Lord, I read Your perfect word,

Your just and holy law.

My guilty conscience has been stirred,

Exposed, my ev'ry flaw.

I tried to follow all the rules

To make me good and right.

But ev'ry action only fuels

The increase of my plight.

A wretched soul, weighed down by sin,

With all my efforts vain.

Deliv'rance did not lie within,

I read Your word again.

I learned that to this earth below

You sent Your only Son.

Who lived and died, that we might know

The vict'ry He has won.

Give thanks to God, enthroned above,

For His amazing gift.

He reached out, with redeeming love,

My guilty soul to lift.

There is no condemnation now

For those who in Christ live.

O let our lives His praises show;

To Him our worship give.
